The Akumbia Showroom

Stay in Black Design.

We are reimagining Akumbia Lodge as a heritage stay and living showroom for Black creativity in Winneba, Ghana.

Our vision brings together furniture, textiles, lighting, art and everyday objects from Black-owned businesses and designers across Africa, the Caribbean and the diaspora. Guests will experience these pieces as part of their stay, discover the people behind them and explore ways to bring selected designs into their own homes.

The showroom is currently in development. We are welcoming conversations with makers, brands and design partners who would like to help shape it.

A Black House Rooted in Ghana

Akumbia Lodge began as the family home of Alex and Elsie Quaison-Sackey. Its next chapter will honour that history through the people, ideas and craftsmanship that fill its rooms.

Our ambition is to create a Black house: a place where Black creativity is intentional, visible and credited. Ghanaian heritage will anchor the experience, alongside contributions from across Africa, the Caribbean and Black communities around the world.

Each piece we select should have a reason to be here; through its beauty, usefulness, craftsmanship or connection to the story of the home. We want guests to know who designed it, who made it and what makes it worth bringing into their lives.

Help Shape the rooms

We are seeking products and expertise across the interior design of Akumbia Lodge, with a focus on Black-owned businesses and African and Caribbean makers.

We welcome established brands, independent studios, and skilled craftspeople. Products should complement the design direction and be suitable for regular guest use.

  1. Tell us about your work. Share your business, your products and how you’d like to take part. A finished proposal isn’t required.

  2. We reply. You’ll hear from us.

  3. We talk fit. We discuss the design direction, the room and what each side contributes.

  4. We agree the scope. Each partnership has a defined contribution, placement, recognition period and responsibilities for delivery and installation.

  5. Your work goes in. Installation, photography and your maker profile follow.

  6. You’re featured. Your work appears in the lodge, on this page and in our updates.

From first conversation to finished room

Your work, experienced in a real home.

Suite Legacy is the renovation series being developed around the transformation of Akumbia Lodge. It brings together African luxury, family history and the decisions involved in giving a historic home a new purpose.

The showroom will be part of that story: discovering makers, choosing materials and seeing how individual pieces transform a room.

As the project progresses, this page will introduce confirmed partners, document installations and share the stories behind selected designs.
